Middle School Palentine’s Social

On February 12th, the Middle School Event Planning Committee hosted the Palentine’s Social. Filled with delicious food, lots of dancing, and board games, this event was a huge success! 7th and 8th graders enjoyed donuts, limbo, music by Zara Larsson, and much more.

Overall, the middle school rated this event a 3.5 out of 5 stars. The majority of students liked hanging out with their friends at this event the best, over 60%. Dancing was also one of the most favored activities, although one of the 7th grade students commented that “maybe some sort of activity [would have been good] because it was a bit awkward.”

One highlight from the event was the dancing and music. Based on a playlist put together by committee members Max Sherva ‘30 and Edward Tenney ‘30, there was a range of songs enjoyed, from various rap music to cheerful pop music. Lucy Serazio ‘31 loved the “more upbeat songs like, ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody’ (Whitney Houston) and ‘Lush Life’ (Zara Larsson).” However, interrupting this night of fun were a few technical difficulties. Serazio continued on to say that “the speaker broke down mid-dance and we had to listen to music on the TV.”

The food provided was chicken and fries from Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, donuts from Dunkin’, and various candy. Tatiana Coates ‘31 shared that she loved “how the food was not something that is usually at a party, it was more out of the ordinary, but it was still delicious.” Organized by Event Planning Committee members, Riley Garnett ‘30, Milo Shalish ‘30, and Chiara Guarino-Barbro ‘30, the food was a hit…for some people. Leila Balla ‘31 would have liked “if there were more vegetarian options because [she] could only eat fries and donuts [and] that would have made it much better.”

Put together by committee members, decorations were hung up around the basement, an incredible sight to see. Valentine’s themed streamers, balloons, table cloths, and fairy lights covered the MS Nest, creating the perfect atmosphere for a great social.

There were also numerous games and activities, such as UNO, limbo, and karaoke. Limbo was a crowd favorite, ultimately won by 7th grader Julia Kowalczyk. UNO, alongside other card and board games, were also a major success, giving people a chance to step away from the busy crowd and still have fun with friends.

Although the Palentine’s Social was a remarkable success, there were few aspects that would have raised the 3.5 stars to a 5. One being that phones were taken prior to entering the event. Emma Sullivan ‘31 shared that the teachers should have “let us have our phones because we can take our own photos and videos” and another middle school student stated “that we should have our phones because of safety.”

Behind the scenes, the Event Planning Committee worked tirelessly to make this event fun for all middle schoolers. However, Brunell stated that the planning process was “very easy.” Their hard work resulted in a fun social.

Overall, a great achievement for the Event Planning Committee. Thank you to all members and teachers for organizing the Middle School Palentine’s Social! Looking forward to the next event!
