What’s the Best Day of the Week?
A total of 17 people responded to the poll, with 29.4% of responses coming from staff and the rest from students across grades 7 through 12.
In the latest Newman debate, students and faculty weighed in on a question that affects all of us whether we realize it or not: What is the best day of the week?
After 17 responses and a pretty tight race, one day edged out the others. Friday came out on top with 29.4% of the vote, followed by a three-way tie between Saturday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 17.6%. Tuesday earned 11.8%, and Monday came in last at 5.9%.
But the real fun was in why people chose what they did.
Friday, the winner, was celebrated for its promise:
"Because you have the whole weekend ahead of you!" wrote Mia Brillantes ‘26. Another respondent added, “It’s the best day to go out...people are usually more excited and there is always the conversation starter of ‘it’s Friday!’”
One person summed it up perfectly: “Friday marks the beginning of the weekend… and I don’t have any co-curriculars, which means I can hang out with friends or do something I like.”
Thursday, not far behind, got its own love as a sort of pre-Friday celebration:
“Thursday is Friday-eve! You’re almost there… it’s oddly refreshing to think about it that way.”
Tuesday received unexpected support for being surprisingly peaceful. One adult respondent reflected on their weekly routine of babysitting a grandchild:
“I spend that entire day feeling ‘present’... it’s a rare and precious opportunity.”
Another person described Tuesday as the “neutral” day. It’s far enough from Monday to feel recovered, but still early enough to look forward to the rest of the week.
Wednesday was praised for its balance and its activities:
“You are over the lull of leaving the comfort of home… you are fully productive and feel engaged.”
Another person added, “It’s club time! I get to hang out with people and do something fun that I chose.”
Saturday, of course, made its usual case as a day off, free of school and obligations or at least in theory.
“No school and no looming threat of school the next day,” one person put it. But others mentioned Saturday isn’t always restful: between outside classes, homework, and chores, it’s not always the lazy day people expect.
And Monday? That one goes to David Korb, who offered a refreshingly open perspective: “Any day.” A controversial pick, maybe, but a reminder that the best day of the week isn’t always about what the calendar says.
Another respondent gave a full philosophical breakdown of every day of the week, pointing out how emotions and routines shift with each one. Their take? There’s something to be said for every single day: the highs, the lows, the dread, and the joy.
So, what is the best day of the week? It depends on who you ask. Maybe it’s the day you finally get to relax, or the one where you feel most energized. Maybe it’s tied to a class, a club, or a routine you didn’t even realize you loved. Maybe it’s not about the day at all. Maybe it’s what you do with it.
And maybe next time you complain about a Tuesday or dread a Sunday, you’ll remember that for someone else, that might just be the best day of the week.
