From Summer with Love: Volume II

BOSTON, MASS - The time has come again, in which we return to busy hallways and late nights of homework. The summer season of warm days has softly transformed into crisp air, and the students return as new people. Changed by summer experiences, we each bring to the school year new findings of who we are.

Sofia Monuteaux ‘26 shares her summer highlights, which included going to a wedding in Portland, Oregon and meeting many new people. She also interned at the Museum of Science, spanning across the Charles River. She shares how “it helped better my perspective on accessibility and was a great way to meet many new communities in the greater Boston area.” The format of the internship allowed for many interactions in the form of activities.

Lincoln Hein ‘27 traveled this summer to western France and described how it “was a beautiful part of the world, especially the rolling hills, small towns, and vineyards.” Lincoln was able to explore the magnificent country through his bike trip, seeing the French way of life close up.

Hein also went to an outdoor sleepaway camp, sharing that “it was super fun to live with friends.” It’s an experience he would recommend to all Newman students for the way it helps “mature and learn how to function without your parents, especially since you're sharing a common space with others.

This summer, my highlights were going to a music academy in the small town of Cremona, Italy, going to a Greek island with my parents, and being able to see my family and cousins in Albania. In Cremona, I played on stages in front of the town’s people, taking lessons and participating in music groups. I got to explore Greece with my parents and have lots of gyros, and in Albania I got to see my family and enjoy the simplicity of sitting on my grandma's balcony.

In all of these wonderful summer adventures, the moments I would say touched me the most were those in between, like walking from place to place under the sun, or taking a selfie backstage.

So when you get worried in the school scramble, remember to enjoy the simple moments in between your crazy schedule and feel the summer excitement even on winter days.
